Fees with Emotion

Divorce can be costly and emotional with unexpected results.  If you allow feelings to get the best of you, your pocketbook could suffer. Filing unreasonable or frivolous motions throughout your pending divorce action could result in paying attorney fees to your spouse. Excessive costs in your case might cause you undue stress. And you thought things would get better……

I have seen attorney’s fees ordered by a judge anywhere from $1,000.00 to $50,000.00.  The amount of fees can vary depending on personal actions throughout the divorce. It also depends on the litigant’s assets and income. However, this does not mean that someone who causes unnecessary litigation and who does not have a lot of money cannot be ordered to pay attorney’s fees. It works both ways.

Before you think about litigating every issue in your pending action, it is important to remember that you could be sanctioned for taking up the court’s time in the pursuit of harassing your spouse. Don’t leave level-headed thinking behind you when you make difficult choices. There’s more to decision making than “winning.”  The truth is that nobody wins when emotions get the best of you.
